In recent years, more and more law schools have begun to look closely at bar exam passage rates as an indicator of prestige and effectiveness, and ultimately, a point of pride. Naturally, a high bar passage rate can be interpreted as a marker of success, and one that in some cases can affect the perception of that institution among hiring firms, the legal community, and the general public.
This has resulted in law schools – for the first time in many cases – instituting a proactive approach to ensure that their students succeed on the bar exam. A variety of strategies have been explored. Some schools require that students take an instructor-led course reviewing all subjects testable on the bar exam. Others encourage a flexible coaching environment where individual students are identified as potentially benefiting from one-on-one attention at the course level.
